Ellen starts 21th of june with an introduction of a workshop at Yakkum.

Yakkum is a centre who takes care of disabled children and youngsters.

Ellen will give this workshop at 25 28 of june and 2 and 12 july . She will be assisted by her Husband Maarten Schepers who is also a visual artist, their two children, and Miranda (from the Cemeti Residence Studio in Yogyakarta) and Ira ( from HONF and Frontline).

The theme of the workshop will be:

SONSBEEK 2008: GRANDEUR
We have created an installation together for the sculpture exhibition in Park Sonsbeek in Arnhem, The Netherlands, entitled ‘The Last Animist’.

The date for Sonsbeek 2008, 10th in the series of legendary sculpture exhibitions held in Sonsbeek Park in Arnhem, the Netherlands, is rapidly approaching.

The plan for Sonsbeek 2008: Grandeur includes not only a beautiful and interesting sculpture exhibition but also another event that promises to be quite unique.
This exceptional feature of Sonsbeek 2008 will be a stately and festive Procession in which all 26 works of art will be carried through the streets of Arnhem by almost a thousand city residents.

Procession on Sunday, June 8, 2008, from 1 to 3 p.m., Kerkplein, Arnhem

Official opening of the sculpture exhibition on Friday, June 13, 2008, at 3 p.m. at Huis Sonsbeek, Sonsbeek Park, Arnhem. At 5 p.m. we will be near our sculpture / installation in the park.

Ellen Rodenberg dan Maarten Schepers, bersama kedua anak mereka, Teide dan Mees, adalah keluarga pertama yang ‘mendarat’ dan berproses di Studio Residensi Cemeti. Di Den Haag, kedua seniman yang berasal dari latar belakang berbeda ini bersama-sama membangun dan mengelola sebuah lembaga seni yang mengapresiasi dan memfasilitasi proses bertumbuhnya seniman, bernama DCR. Di Yogyakarta, mereka ingin melihat kemungkinan untuk melakukan hal sama, selain berkarya. Ellen Rodenberg membuat lukisan dan instalasi dengan pertimbangan yang kuat pada warna, bahan, dan makna bahan. Ia tertarik untuk mengetahui kebutuhan mental mendasar orang-orang Indonesia dan berniat menyelidikinya melalui obrolan tentang arti sejarah, relijiositas, dan pendidikan terhadap orang per orang. Maarten Schepers adalah perupa yang terpesona pada lelampu kota Yogya dan ingin menggali lebih dalam mengenai bagaimana kota ini terbentuk. Bersama Wimo Ambala Bayang, seniman residensi dari Indonesia kali ini, mereka mengajak publik Yogya berjabat tangan, melalui karya-karya mereka terdahulu. Mari bertandang dan mengapresiasi. Terima kasih.

Ellen Rodenberg and Maarten Schepers, altogether with their two children, Teide and Mees, were the first family which ‘landed’ and working in Cemeti Residency Studio. In The Hague, these artists who came from different backgrounds were founding an artists’ initiative and managing this place which appreciates and facilitates artists’ ‘breeding’, called DCR. In Yogyakarta, they want to seek for possibilities of doing the same, instead of working on their projects. Ellen Rodenberg is making paintings and installation with strong intention on color, material, and the meaning behind materials. She was interested in knowing the basic mental needs of Indonesian people and intending to investigate it through chats about meaning of history, religiosity, and education for us. Maarten Schepers is an artist who felt amaze of the lightings of Jogja, and wants to dig more about how this city was formed. Together with Wimo Ambala Bayang, the Indonesian artist in residence on this period, they were ready to ‘shake their hands’ to public of Yogyakarta through their previous works.
